It was week two of cold and bronchitis. But even if I still wasn’t feeling myself, I was lucky with the weather. The temp was in the low 50’s, the winds were calm and I needed to get out and find inspiration. I went to one of my favorite haunts; the bike trail. Oh there were a couple of bikers and a few young gals on roller blades cruising along serenely. Well at least they were up to the point where a bluff had allowed wind-blown snow to pile up and now shielded the area from the thawing rays of the sun. The icy blockade made but a trivial detour for them. A couple of laughs, some quiet comments and muffled giggles and all were on there way again. Everyone enjoyed. I’d walk a bit and then skirt off the trail on occasion to grab a shot of a scene that caught my eye. It was whilst making one of those little side jaunts that I literally slipped into today’s featured photo. I had slid down the steep roadway bank and ventured out onto some iced in cattails with the intention of trying to capture the reflection of the ensuing sunset. The inlet into Union lake had been open all winter but the recent warm spell had resulted in a great deal more open water. My thought was to get some of the cattails in the foreground and capture the reflected sky in the open water. But that’s when I noticed the reflection of the couple. I looked up to the westward hill and there on the park bench enjoying the view was a young couple I’d visited with earlier at the outlet. She had seemed more serious and he was the playful one with a sparkle in his eye. Now as I sought to capture this scene, I couldn’t help but wonder what the topic of the discussion was and what the future would bring for them. That really didn’t matter though, for now they just seemed content to enjoy this interlude with spring.
