Today I was wrapping up frame making, going through photos and making prints for an upcoming photography show. With the day starting at -19° F and a high of only -6° without including the wind-chill of a cold northwest wind, one was mighty thankful for the warmth of the sun and especially a warm home today. All in all this day reminded me of a very similar morning almost a year ago. It was -11° that frigid morning as I stopped to shiver and take this shot just moments before sunrise. Countless mornings I had driven by these two lone trees on my way to work and mentally kicked myself a few times for not stopping to capture them at a special moment. When I left home and darkness was beginning to give way to light, I could tell that the morning sky was going to be special. As I approached the location of the two trees, I made the decision. Cold or not, this was the day I was going to get this shot. As it turned out, those last couple of predawn moments were indeed the rise to a glorious day. I’d suffer through a couple of frosted fingers any time for another shot like this. Which brings to mind, it’s -13° right now. Guess I’ll be packing my camera for the drive in tomorrow.
