Peaceful Reflections. It’s the third week of January in central Minnesota. Normally, the high temperatures average between 15 to 20° Fahrenheit with lows around 0° while extremes for this day are from near +40° to -20° and colder. That said, the colder side of average seems much more common. However, this has not been a normal year and the setting at Mina Outlet as I was shooting late that afternoon was more like mid-November and not January. Peaceful it was with only the lightest hint of breeze. One could imagine sitting here at twilight in the summer or fall to relax and view such a scene but the mosquitoes would be covering any bare spot of your anatomy. No; today was the most serene of days to enjoy a quite moment with only the sound of the gurgling stream harmonized on occasion by a passing murder of crows, an occasional curious chickadee or a pileated woodpecker cuk-cuk-cukking his way along to his next feeder tree. But with the setting sun and the temperature dropping all good things must come to an end. Still, having those few moments to relax, to forget about your workday worries and contemplate on good and important things in life is indeed medicine for the soul. And yes, coming away with a quality picture to show for the “effort” pretty well tops off the day.
