I always get a feeling of satisfaction when I see the community doing something right. A case in point is the development of the new Douglas County Brophy Park. In the past few years this expanse of prairie, hills and lakeshore was donated to the county. The sole use of this land was to be for a county park. Though some work and development has occurred the past couple of years it wasn’t until this summer that a flurry of activity transpired. Community information and planning sessions have taken place, individuals and groups have contributed ideas, and others have walked the hills to lay out hiking, ski and bike trails. Nature, ecology and education on land, animal, avian and insect life have all been part of the comingling of ideas. Consideration for people with different interests, abilities and limitations has all been brought to the forefront. In short, this is a community project and won’t be the culmination of a single person or groups dream. As noted in this early evening shot, the new trails are just the beginning of exciting times ahead.
