Sitting Pretty

Watching the spring migration of birds I can’t help but wonder what I’ve missed out on for most of my life. Migrating sparrows are a prime example. In the past, I’d look at most of the sparrow like birds in the area and determine them all to be the same. Then I saw some pictures of migrating sparrows such as the White-throated, the White-crowned and Harris’s. “Wow! I’ve never seen them before”, I thought. Then I started checking out some of those sparrows in the spring and fall and voila, they were here. A prime example of the flocks of migrating sparrows that frequent our area every spring and fall is the White-throated species. With the bold white patch under their beak and the unique yellow crown over their eyes, they are quite the dapper little bird. It’s a long flight from the southern states to Canada, but it seems they enjoy stopping to relax a few days to check out the local cuisine and scenery. Check them out and you too may find a little fellow like this just sitting pretty.
